BIOGRAPHY

My name is Sidney Murray and I am currently a doctoral candidate with the anticipated graduation date of May 2026.  My teaching and research operate at the intersection of organizational and interpersonal communication where I examine how interactions in and surrounding work settings influence how individuals think about themselves, their connections to work, and their well-being. I utilize my scholarship, teaching, and service as a way to understand identity and promote forwards progress in a myriad of ways.

My scholarship is driven by a passion for understanding how individuals navigate identity in complex, often contradictory, organizational and social landscapes. In my scholarship, I am committed to advancing applied communication and having the research I conduct meaningfully impact lives. Teaching is an integral part of my scholarly identity as it centers my ability to enact change and demonstrate care for students that can make a direct impact in their wellbeing. I treating learning as a collaborative process where students leave my classroom feeling capable and confident in their communication abilities with a deeper understanding of the world and their place within it. Continuing the ideas of building and strengthening community, my service centers on building mentorship and community as well as creating space for people鈥檚 voices and concerns to be heard. I have done this through service as previous Vice President and current President of the Graduate Communication Association and served as student chair on the Professional and Community Development Committee. In summary, my scholarship, education, and service centers identity dynamics and understanding within organizations while seeking to foster positive change in and out of academia.
